Funerals
Losing someone you love is something that happens to us all and if that is why you are reading this then we know that you will be experiencing all kinds of difficult emotions, and it may feel like the sadness you're experiencing will never let up. These are normal reactions to a significant loss. But from the moment you are in touch with us, throughout the funeral preparation, the service and beyond we will be here for you.
The Church of England has been helping people mark the end of life for generations and we offer ourservices to anyone who wants them. The message of a Christian funeral is hope. Although there is sadness when someone you know and love has died we believe that when we die God promises that we will be with him in heaven. Of course we cannot say what heaven is really like, but we can be confident that it is a place of love and joy.
Planning a funeral is, thankfully, not something that most of us do very often which possibly makes itseem more than a little confusing but along with your Funeral Director we will help you get the serviceyou want and need.
A church service can be followed by a burial in the churchyard [please see notebelow] or elsewhere or a cremation at a local crematorium. We can also help you with services held entirely at a crematorium.
Although there is a traditional form of service for a Christian funeral this can be added to so that it becomes personal to you and your family. Music is important as it can bring back memories; help you mourn and help you celebrate someone’s life. Some families like to include hymns, but they are not compulsory. What matters is that the music means something to you.
Family and friends can also make their own contributions; this could include reminiscences, readings and poetry. You will also need to select a reading from the bible, but we can help you with this along with any other readings that you might like to add. All this will help create the right service for you. The churchyard is open to people who have lived in Whitefield or have a connection with the church. If you would like to arrange a burial, including the burial of cremated remains, please contact us. Grief is different for everyone and there is no time limit. All of us have lost someone we love and we will try and help you get through your sadness.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you want some help or just to talk. No one has all the answers, but it is always easier to work through the big questions of life and death in company.
A prayer
Lord of all love, be with me today in the stillness and comfort me as I remember. Be with me as I look back, remembering all whom I mourn, and be with me as I look forward. Amen
